Effectively shooting a hockey puck is not attributed solely to arm or wrist strength but rather a unique blend of the whole body and weight transfer to produce speed, power, and accuracy. To execute a solid shot, a player must have a combination of skill, technique, and muscular strength.

As aforementioned, the muscles used in hockey shooting extend beyond the upper body and include the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and hip flexors. These muscles work together to generate power and torque when shooting the puck.

Training these muscles to develop explosive power can improve a player’s shot accuracy and increase their scoring potential. By utilizing specific exercises and techniques, players can maximize their hockey shooting potential and take their game to

the next level.

1. Practice proper technique: Focus on proper technique when shooting. This includes using your whole body to generate power, keeping your head up, and following through with your shot.

2. Strengthen your core and legs: The power in your shot comes from your core and legs. To improve your shot incorporate exercises that target your core and legs, such as squats, lunges, and planks, into your training routine.
